We Have Walls!!

So it has been a while since we have posted pictures; with work, the holidays, and some crazy rain, we haven't been able to get some good shots. The brick is almost done, we are hoping for some stone soon.I am sure that the rain has been holding them back. And walls... they finished the walls! It actually looks like a home. Everything is happening so fast!! Only four more weeks till closing! Today they put in all the cabinets in the kitchen and the bathrooms! Countertops and paint soon!

Just missing the stone!!

The House Isn't Yellow!!

We were slightly worried that the yellow trim on the house was permanent. See we picked out a color "manilla tan" but it was so long ago we couldn't remember what it actually looked like. We were pleasantly surprised when we drove by Friday, they painted and it is definitely manilla tan and not yellow. They also finished all the electrical work; we have outlets and switches and cable and all that sort of stuff. We are hoping by the end of next week the exterior is done (brick and stone) and they have started sheetrocking. But we will keep ya'll updated!

My Christmas Miracle

Every holiday season is full of little miracles, whether we want to take the time to notice them or not. This year Scott and I were surprised with a Christmas visitor that turned our lonesome Christmas Holiday into the best Christmas since rollerblade barbie (1995 I think!) I put up the Christmas tree, the lights and the stockings in late November but Christmas just wasn't in the air. Since we are building our house this year, Scott and I decided not to travel home for the holidays. Also since I am new at the job I ended up getting scheduled all of Christmas weekend anyways. We've done everthing possible to bring the holiday spirit into our little home, but without the snow and without our families it just didn't seem possible.
So then the Christmas miracle begins, before we even knew it actually. It was December 1st and I was working in the Neuro Unit, which is strange enough, it was 6 pm and I was busy trying to get things finished for the day, when I get a call. The man says he is from the admitting office and needs me right away, confused I question the man asking why and if he was sure he had the right nurse. He insisted it was me he wanted and it was now that he wanted me. Being an hour away from shift change I tried to get him to wait but he said I had 10 minutes, so I ran. I left my patients in the hands of another nurse and left the unit on my way to admissions. I am texting Scott on the elevator, worried something happened but he texted back just as confused as I was. As I arrive in what I am hoping is the admissions area, a woman is waiting for me, calls me by name, and asks me to follow her. My heart is pounding and I am getting more nervous until I walk around the corner to see my mother sitting their waiting for me. I remember looking at her and then looking at the woman and needing a few seconds to understand what has happened. My mom was in Houston? in the hospital?
My mothers surprise visit to Houston for the holidays. She had planned the visit for a while, but spoke a word to no one is fear of Scott or me finding out. She spent all morning flying from Utah to Phoenix to Houston. As she arrived at the car rental she pulled out her GPS and told the man she was going to "Hermann hospital". She had printed out a map she had from the airport to the Memorial Hermann hospital in northwest Houston. A bit of inside info- there are like 8 Memorial Hermann hospitals in Houston and she had a map to one that was over an hour from where I was. The man tells her about the many Hermann hospitals and asks if she was sure she had the right one. Of course she has no idea, but she knows I work downtown and the map she has is not taking her downtown. The man, being part of the Christmas miracle, puts a different address into her GPS directing her to the exact hospital in which I would be located. After her journey to the Medical Center, finding parking, and asking for directions she somehow ends up in the admissions office.
Having my mother here for the holidays was more than a Christmas miracle. It was exactly what we both needed this Christmas season. We Christmas shopped for three days, wrapped gifts, decorated the tree, and ate and ate and ate!! It was so hard taking her back to the airport Saturday morning but I am so thankful for everyday she was able to spend with us.
I have no doubt that God's hands were involved in so many events that day. From the man at the car rental, to the man in the admissions office, and my boss giving me a couple days off that weekend.Scott was such a good sport, and even though he was sick that week, he let me hang out with my mom, go shopping and he even cooked us dinner one night. I am a very blessed woman to have so many special people in my life and to be able to spend time with my two favorites this time of year. I am hoping and praying that next year we will be able to go home and surprise our families for the holidays. We still have so many people that we miss but hope to see them soon!
Thanks mom, I love ya and miss ya already!!

Vacation for Two

Yes that is right, Scott and I actually went on a vacation, a seven day cruise in fact. Scott did a sweet thing and planned the whole trip for the week of my birthday. We both needed some time off, especially Scott. Ever since we've been married we've both been so busy with work and school, and now since the move to Texas we have actually had some time together. Scott even got me this amazing camera for my birthday that I was able to take all these good pictures with.

We spent several days on the boat, relaxing in the sun, eating anything any time of day and watching football on the largest big screen TV I have ever seen.
Our first stop was Nassau, Bahamas. Scott and I found this beautiful beach we were able to spend the day on. So different than the beaches of Galvaston!

Our second destination was Freeport, Bahamas. We splurged a little and paid for a shore excursion. We were able to kayak a small river to an even more amazing beach and then hike up to some crazy beach caves. It was so fun to see so much of the island but we were exhausted by the time we got back to the ship.

And then our last stop was Key West, Florida. It was nice to be back in the states again, we felt much safer walking the streets and were actually able to use our credit cards. There weren't really any beaches but tons of fun shopping!! We finished our day with some Key Lime Pie, the islands finest!

We absolutely loved the cruise and will definitely be doing it again soon. It was really hard to come home and go back to cooking and cleaning for ourselves though. Next thing on our list is buying our own home, I finally feel like a grown-up! We will be posting pictures soon as our home is in the process of being built!

San Antonio!!!!

A couple weeks ago, Scott and I were lucky enough to have a three day weekend together, so we thought we take advantage of it and see what Texas has to offer. We headed south to the home of the Alamo, San Antonio. Our first stop was New Baunfels, we had scheduled a tubing trip down the Guadalupe River. We expected something simular to river rafting and it ended up being a total 'beer fest'. We sat on our tubes and floated down the river!! Apparently it is a great activity for a group of people all sitting around a floating cooler of beer and a floating stereo playing 'Kid Rock'. But we managed to have a good time, got a nice sunburn and we were able to sit, relax, and enjoy each others company. After the ride we headed to San Antonio, we spent the evening exploring the beautiful riverwalk, including the Alamo. Day two was filled with fun and heat at Six Flags Fiesta! It was nice to get our of the house and spend time with Scott. He has been working a lot of long days lately and we haven't had any time off together. He is such a good husband, he does a good job taking care of our little family.

So I Think It's Time For An Update

So I know I haven't posted anything in like 6 months!! And a lot has happened. So we'll start with the beginning.........

April 6, 2010
Scott and I were sealed for time and all eternity. It seemed like our wait to get to the temple took forever, but that short year is nothing compared to eternity. We are so blessed to be members of the church and to have the opportunity to go through the temple together and we are excited to start our family off with that amazing blessing. We chose the Draper temple and were so lucky to have friends and family there to celebrate our special day.

I graduated from Southern Utah University with my Bachelors in Nursing!! Finally after a long four years of studying and crazy long days at the hospital Scott and I are excited to start a normal life together; its no fun having a wife in nursing school. I was lucky enough to have my parents drive down to Cedar City for the weekend to celebrate with us. I am really going to miss my nursing family, I wouldn't have made it through the last two years without them. I know they will all be successful in whatever they do with their careers.

Thanks for all the memories guys!!

This was the day Scott and I said goodbye to good ol' Cedar City and made our 24 hour journey to Houston, Texas to start our new life. It wasn't an easy decision, but we knew it was the right move to make. Scott got a job working for the Department of Defense as a Federal Auditor. He really is liking his job so far and seems to be pretty good at it. I spent the first month in Texas studying for the NCLEX and then got a job working at a hospital in the Texas Medical Center as a cardiovascular nurse. We really miss our families and friends back in Utah but hope to visit them as much as we can. We want to make it back to Utah one day, but for now we are enjoying the new environment and focusing on our careers. We have had fun exploring the new area, here are some pictures of some of our adventures.
